Say Hello to Open’s 2024 Vintage – Good Wine, Even in Tough Times
Last year wasn’t easy for BC’s vineyards—a rare deep freeze made things tricky for growers across the region. But at Open Winery, we’re all about rolling with the punches. Our winemakers got creative and carefully sourced from top-notch wine growing regions which could match our wine profile - to bring you a vintage that still tastes just as great.
We are deeply grateful for your continued support and understanding as we navigate this journey together. We are excited for you to try our 2024 vintage—it’s proof that a little resilience (and a lot of care) goes a long way!

FAQs
How did the freeze impact the vineyards?
In January 2024, the Okanagan got hit hard—temps dropped below -20°C and stayed there, causing major damage to our vineyards and wiping out a lot of our grape crops.
It’s been a tough ride, but if there’s one thing our team of winemakers know how to do, it’s keep going. With a whole lot of heart and creativity, we’re still here, making great wine and staying true to what makes Open wines so special.
Is this only impacting Open or also all other BC wines?
In 2024, a tough frost hit hard, and most BC wineries felt it. Grape production dropped by about 90% across the region.
At Open, we weren’t able to produce our white and rosé wines from this year’s harvest. However, our 2023 VQA Okanagan reds came from a standout vintage, and they’re still going strong. You’ll find them on shelves throughout most of the year — ready for whatever moment calls for a glass.
What does this mean for Open 2024 vintage?
Crafted in BC – Keeping the Wine Flowing in 2024
2024 threw some curveballs at BC wineries, but there’s good news—the provincial government stepped up with a support program called “Crafted in BC” to help keep the local wine scene going strong.
Thanks to this, our winemaker had the chance to get a little creative. By teaming up with trusted grape-growers and wineries outside of BC, we pulled together a special limited release for 2024. Same care, same great taste—just with a bit of help from our friends. We loved making these wines and think you’ll love sipping them just as much.
Is the change only temporary?
Yes this is a temporary change while our vineyards recover. The good news? Over the next 18 months, we’re expecting a strong comeback as we replant and restore our vines.
Can I expect the same wine quality? Do these year’s wine still taste the same?
Same Great Taste, Just a Twist on the Journey
We know our wines have a spot in your glass—and in those everyday moments worth savoring. This vintage presented us with a few challenges, but one thing kept us grounded: sticking to the wines you know, love, and actually want to drink.
Our winemaking team has carefully crafted each bottle to bring you the signature flavor, balance, and character you expect from us. The road was a little different this time, but the destination? Still delicious.
I saw the back label indicates blend of imported and domestic wines – what does this mean?
Our 2024 vintage has been primarily sourced outside of the BC region, in full compliance with approved government labeling regulations. A portion of Canadian grapes, sourced from Ontario, has also been included in each of our wines. This was done under the framework of the Crafted in Canada program and was purposefully executed to complement and enhance each wine’s profile during the final stages of production.
